My name is Rachel Louise Berggren. I am a community builder, a food systems consultant and a cultural change agent. I am a gardener, a food nerd, a barefoot hiker. I am an anthropologist, a podcaster, a writer, a story teller, a listener. I am a mystic, a spiritual journeyer, a yogi, and a beacon of love in the universe.
Welcome to my blog!
Community, like nature, is an ecosystem, the parts of which are inextricable from the whole. Over the years, I have found myself belonging and relating to many different forms of community. I have engaged with the challenges that humanity grapples with from many different perspectives.
I studied anthropology at the Bachelor’s level, conducting research on belief and belonging in community. I then went on to work in the non-profit sector for 10+ years focused on community resource building and prevention/intervention strategies for creating healthy communities. From there I specialized in food systems through a Master’s degree in Sustainability Sciences with a concentration in Community Food Systems and several years of leadership roles, consulting projects and volunteerism in various sectors of the food system.
Wherever the path has taken me, the central thread through it all has been seeing the crucial role community plays in shaping us and that we play in shaping it. Understanding this is central to exploring who we are and who we are becoming as individuals and as a collective.
The roots of this blog began through a motivation and a passion to understand people, perspectives and the way that both come together to shape the world that we live in. Through my studies, my work, my lived experiences, and especially my relationships with people I have come to see that all of our lives, down to the smallest details, are part of the story of human experience. With this blog, I hope to engage people in relating to themselves and the world (of which we are all a part).
The question I aim to answer is, how can engagement around what influences and shapes our humanity help us to transform our individual lives, our relationships with each other and with the ecosystem, our own cultures, and our world?
The study of culture and human behavior is tied into everything that we do, the ways that we feel and interact and the structures and norms at play in our world. The goal of AnthroPerspectives is to explore how engaging what shapes human behavior can help us to understand ourselves and each other more deeply. By participating in conversations and reflection on what impacts us, we will be better equipped to understand and tackle individual and societal problems that we face.
